Meet Coach AJ: Adolph Joseph

Founder of Get Right or Get Left | Human Performance Coach & Data Sports Science Consultant

Hi, I’m Coach AJ—a former high-level athlete, lifelong competitor, coach, and mentor. For more than 20 years, I’ve helped athletes develop their physical abilities, strengthen their confidence, and build habits that carry into everyday life.

I founded Get Right or Get Left (GRGL) with a purpose: to help people understand their potential and work intentionally toward it. For our young student-athletes, that means developing as a person while growing as an athlete.

Sports performance training gives us an opportunity to teach accountability, discipline, resilience, and leadership. Every session is a chance to improve how an athlete moves, thinks, prepares, and responds to challenges.

My Background: Athletics, Psychology, and Leadership

My approach to coaching comes from a combination of athletic experience, education, military service, and years of working directly with athletes.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology, with a focus on Industrial-Organizational and Human Behavior Psychology. While continuing to play football, I also studied human physiology and anatomy, building a deeper understanding of the relationship between the mind, body, and performance.

That foundation continues to shape my work. Understanding an athlete’s motivation, confidence, and response to coaching helps me make training more meaningful and effective.

Professional training and areas of specialization

  • Strength and Conditioning
  • Sports Nutrition
  • Sports Performance
  • Sports Psychology
  • Data Sports Science Analytics

I also served eight years in the Army Reserve, with experience in Basic Training Fitness Readiness and Battalion Fitness Readiness. That experience reinforced the importance of preparation, consistency, teamwork, and performing with purpose.

Passion Meets Profession

My passion for sports, fitness, and psychology led me into coaching high school and junior college football, where I could bring physical preparation and personal development together.

Throughout my career, I’ve experienced championship environments as both a player and a coach. Those experiences taught me that sustained success requires clear expectations, thoughtful preparation, trust, and consistent execution.

Today, I bring those lessons into GRGL and my role as FBU West Coast Regional Director, helping student-athletes prepare for opportunities ahead.

The GRGL Approach: Understand the Athlete. Guide the Process.

Every athlete brings a different background, movement profile, training history, and set of goals. Their development deserves an approach that reflects those differences.

At GRGL, we begin by understanding where the athlete is today. Baseline assessments help us identify strengths, areas for improvement, and priorities that guide programming. We then monitor progress and adjust as the athlete develops.

Our approach combines hands-on coaching with data sports science to help athletes and coaches make informed decisions. Depending on the athlete and program, this can include assessing speed, strength, power, mobility, flexibility, and training demands.

Information has no value until a coach uses it to make decisions that help the athlete head in the right direction.

The value comes from turning that information into purposeful action—what to train, how to progress, and when to adjust.

Developing Athletic Strength for Sport and Life

My philosophy goes beyond how much weight an athlete can lift. I care about how efficiently and effectively they move that weight—and how their physical development supports the demands of their sport.

We work to build athletes who are strong, capable, adaptable, and prepared. That includes developing movement quality, supporting injury preparedness, and building habits that contribute to long-term health and performance.

The goal is to become ATHLETICALLY STRONG, with the ability to apply strength when it matters.

Mentorship That Extends Beyond Training

I care about who our student-athletes are becoming. Through coaching, I encourage them to take ownership of their preparation, communicate with confidence, respect others, and keep working when progress feels difficult.

Whether an athlete is building a foundation or preparing for the next level, my commitment remains the same: provide honest guidance, purposeful coaching, and a process they can understand.

At GRGL, we train with a purpose—and help our athletes understand theirs.

Train INTELLIGENTLY, INTENTIONALLY, & PURPOSELY.

Either Get Right or Get Left.
